Live Links
With an ever increasing user base, tracking where users leave your site can be, to say the least, challenging. Even though content can be moderated, more and more links are sent over private messages to malware, phishing or spam sites. Using flx.im live links helps you restore control over outbound links.
How does it work?
flx.im will generate a small script that is hosted on our servers which is easy for you to include in your global page template or header, this replaces all external URLs and redirects them to the flx.im Live Links service. Here flx.im log the event and, if specified under your account settings, can search against the Live Links database for malware and phishing sites or your own blacklist.
What happens if when site is found on a blacklist?
Firstly, the referring page, time and blacklist site are logged. After this you can specify what happens in the account settings. There are 3 choices:
- Return back to your own site (for a disallowed page). Mark-up is available for coding the return URL (such as website title, domain, issue) to allow a richer browsing experience for the user.
- Proceed to a flx.im page. This gives users a choice to proceed to the disallowed site at their own peril or return back to your site. This page is brandable and the message, logo and CSS for the page can be customised.
- Silently proceed to the blocked site and just log the incident.
And if the site isn't on the blacklist?
Again, this is completely customisable under your account settings. You have the choice to:
- Silently log the visit and continue
- Proceed to a flx.im page where a message (example "we are not responsible for the content for this external site") can be forced upon the user which will either proceed automatically (after a specified number of seconds) or on click of a button.
What reports are available?
So far, weekly and all time reports are available (as web pages, CSV and JSON) for top most clicked outbound links. Blocked site reports are also available with the top blocked sites with referring pages.
Raw logs of outbound links and blocked URLs are available for each week. Anything older is archived, snapshots of each day still available for a year.
How much does it cost?
Nothing, this service is completely free, we plan to keep it free too. We currently don't show adverts on any of our live link pages but reserve the right to if we need extra funding.
